Janet Marie Murphy, a retired legal secretary, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023, at her home in Wurtsboro, New York, surrounded by her loving family. She was 71.
The daughter of the late Gerard T. Murphy and Bernice (Lynn) Murphy, she was born September 26, 1951, in Queens, New York.
Prior to moving to Wurtsboro in 2012 fulltime, Janet was a longtime resident of Long Beach, Long Island, where she enjoyed her time at the beach. She became a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Bloomingburg where she served as a lector on Sunday mornings and helping at the food pantry.
She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years: Robert Brosnan, at home; a brother: Paul Murphy and his wife Kathy; a sister: Regina Lempka; brothers-in-law: Thomas Brosnan and his wife Rosemary; John Brosnan, Michael Brosnan; sisters-in-law: Mary Brosnan; Eileen Buckhaults and husband Raymond; nieces and nephews: Matthew (Lauren) Murphy, Michael (Katelyn) Murphy, Brian (Tracy) Murphy, AJ (Tayler) Murphy, Leonard Lempka, Robert Brosnan, Kerri Buckhaults and Edward Buckhaults; and many great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, March 18 from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral mass will follow at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 17 High Street in Bloomingburg with Fr. Paul Denault O.Carm officiating.
