FAYE L. DENIKE
December 30, 1925 – March 6, 2023
Murrells Inlet, SC formerly Cornwall, NY

Faye L. DeNike, a former Cornwall, NY resident, entered into eternal rest on March 6, 2023, at The Palmettos of Garden City, Murrells Inlet, SC. She was 97 years old.

The daughter of the late Paul Joseph Belsito and Helen (Gardner) Belsito, Faye was born on December 30, 1925, in Newburgh, NY.

Faye was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and worked locally after high school. At the age of 24, she married the love of her life, John F. DeNike on July 1, 1950. As she affectionately named him, “Johnny” and Faye set up household at 263 Jackson Avenue where their lives together commenced as the backbone of their families, friends, and neighbors. Together they provided loving support, helping everyone in their lives with encouragement, assistance, and sound advice. Together they hosted gatherings and outings leaving many with warm and fond memories. Faye remained at that address for 72 years.

Although most of her life Faye predominantly worked as a housewife, in the 1980’s she was employed by George M. Carroll Transportation as a Mini-bus driver.

Faye was famous among her friends and family for the beautiful and delicious cakes she baked for all occasions. Holidays, birthdays, weddings, and special events were made all the more special when they included one of her delightful cakes, which she decorated with precision and an artistic flare. Following her passion for cake baking, she ran her own small business for several years called Faye’s Fancy Cakes.

Likewise, many looked forward to receiving the delectable home baked breads and goodies that she sent out each year at Christmastime. She relished sharing her recipes and teaching others how to also produce her favorite baked goods.

She was an avid crafter showering her large circle of friends and family with the homemade décor she so ardently loved to create.

As a self-described “card person”, Faye enjoyed corresponding with so many. She kept in touch with letters of flowing penmanship, cards and notes, and never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion.

One of Faye’s favorite pastimes was travelling and visiting with friends and family.

Faye was a woman of very deep faith and served for decades at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Newburgh, NY.

She belonged to TOPS NY #0158, Cornwall (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a nonprofit organization whose focus is on developing healthy lifestyles through weight management. Having joined in March of 1981, Faye attended weekly meetings religiously and maintained active roles and positions throughout her many years of membership. She also received the coveted KOPS designation (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) for upholding her goal for 40 consecutive years.

Faye was hardworking and meticulous, practical and prudent, happy and social, proper, and respectable. She took genuine interest in people, was very popular, and each relationship was important to her. To know Faye was to love her and her wit and infectious laughter made everyone smile.

Faye was predeceased by her loving husband: John F. DeNike. In addition to her husband, Faye was predeceased by her sisters: Doris Mastrella and Lillian Weeden; and by her brothers: Donald, Paul, Ralph, and Walter Belsito. She is survived by two sisters-in-law and many loving nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Visitation and a Chapel Service will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, the 24th of March at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Following the Chapel Service, interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, NY.
