Elizabeth Vaughan DiSomma, formerly of Fishkill, died on March 9, 2023, at the Lutheran Care Center. She was 94 years old.

“Betsy” was born in Chicago in 1928, the second child of Laura (Harwood) and Harold Fullerton Vaughan of Western Springs, IL. She grew up in Western Springs and Oak Park and graduated from Oak Park High School in 1946. She attended Syracuse University, where she met and married David Joseph Di Somma. The couple resided in White Plains, NY for 32 years, where they raised three children.

Betsy earned a master’s degree in education of the Deaf at Teacher’s College, Columbia University. She taught at the New York School for the Deaf in White Plains for 14 years.
She was a member of the White Plains Presbyterian Church and served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent, Elder, and Christian Ed. Chairman.

The DiSommas retired in 1983 and moved to Panton, VT. They moved to Middlebury in 1992. In Vermont, Betsy was a member of the Vergennes Congregational Church, where she served as Deacon. She volunteered and later worked for Elderly Services, Inc. in Middlebury for twelve years.

She was predeceased by her husband, David, in 1994.

Betsy moved to Fishkill, NY in 2006 to be close to her children, and there she became a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church of East Fishkill.

She leaves her children, Cathy and David DiSomma, both of Ossining, NY; Diane and Ray Durmazolu of Hopewell Junction, NY, and two grandchildren, David and Francesca Durmazolu.

A memorial service will be held at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction at a later date.
