Catherine “Kitty” A. Stager, a 28-year resident of Beacon and formerly of Paterson, NJ, entered into rest on Sunday, March 5 at home. She was 90 years old.

Kitty was born on December 21, 1932, in Paterson, NJ the daughter of the late Eugene and Natalie Tarsitano. In 1955 she married Donald J. Stager at St. Philips Church in Clifton, NJ. Mr. Stager predeceased her in 1973.

Kitty worked for Chemway Corp in Fairfield, NJ until her retirement in 1980 after 30 years of service. Catherine was a lifelong person of Catholic Faith and was dedicated to daily prayer and introspection. She was a parishioner of St. Joachim – St. John the Evangelist Church, a member of the Third Order Secular Franciscans at St. Lawrence Friary in Beacon; she was the treasurer of the Mount Beacon Incline Railway Restoration Society. She also volunteered at the St. Andrew’s/St. Luke’s Food Bank every Friday morning and loved her fellow volunteers. For many years Kitty ran bus trips to Atlantic City.

She is survived by her daughters, Judith C. Smith and her husband, Howard H. Smith and Donna J. Brennan and her husband, Robert; her grandchildren, Cara Noel Smith, Alison Mancuso and husband, Vincent, Leann Mack and husband, Michael and Ryan Brennan; her great grandchildren, Gianna, Benjamin, Francesca, Trevor, Julianne and Garrett.

Family and friends will gather on Friday, March 10 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman Street, Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 11 at 11:15 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
