Mrs. Agnes L. Nowak of Huguenot, NY a Cook, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Bon Secours Community Hospital. She was 82.

She was born October 24, 1940, in Middletown, NY the daughter of the late Claude Schoonmaker and the late Barbara Gray Schoonmaker.

Agnes married Joseph Nowak on December 27, 1961, in Wawayanda, NY and they were married for 56 years until his passing on June 11, 2018.

She worked as a Cook for Minisink Valley Central School in Slate Hill, and she also worked at St. Teresa’s Nursing Home in Middletown.

Agnes was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother sister and aunt. She grew up on a farm in the Ridgebury and farming was in her blood. She was a past member of the 4 H where she would show her farm animals and a past member of the Wawayanda Grange. She sold vegetables right from the farm in Huguenot up unitl 2017. Agnes was a very friendly person and people gravitated to her kindness. She was also a very strong woman who survived breast cancer.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Leach and her husband Richard of Slate Hill, NY; her granddaughter, Kayla Mendoza and her husband Jose of Slate Hill, NY; her grandson, Richard Joseph Leach of Slate Hill, NY.

Her loving great grandchildren: Joseph Patrick Mendoza. Hunter Michael Mendoza and Logan Matthew Mendoza. Also, several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother: Francis Schoonmaker and his wife Jean Schoonmaker and her brothers-in-law: Walter and Stanley Nowak and her sisters-in-law: Frances and Rose Nowak.

A visitation will be held at GRAY-PARKER FUNERAL HOME, INC. 100 East Main Street Port Jervis on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 10:00 am – 11:30 am.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 11:30 AM from Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis with Pastor Nancy Vonderhorst officiating.

Burial will be at Ridgebury Cemetery, Ridgebury, NY.
