Ulster legislators raise tobacco age to 21

KINGSTON – With no debate or discussion, the Ulster County Legislature adopted a local law raising the minimum age to purchase tobacco products to 21.  The law takes effect January 1, 2019.

Orange County previously adopted a similar law.

In other business during a brief monthly meeting, the legislature confirmed reappointment of Dr. Carol Smith as commissioner of Health and Mental Health and the appointment of Christina Dawson as commissioner of the County Commission on Human Rights and as director of the Ulster County Youth Bureau.
