Poughkeepsie man wanted for robbery turns himself in, in North Carolina


POUGHKEEPSIE – A 28-year-old City of Poughkeepsie man, wanted on a felony warrant for robbery, turned himself in on Thursday to the Fayetteville, North Carolina Police and was taken into custody on a Poughkeepsie warrant.

Derick Hinton and others yet to be identified allegedly took part in the robbery of a 62-year-old woman on Garden Street at 9:30 in the morning on July 11. They sprayed mace in her face causing burning and significant pain, while forcibly taking her purse.

Once Hinton is cleared for extradition in North Carolina, he will be brought back to Poughkeepsie to be arraigned on the local charges.

Local police thanked all the law enforcement agencies that assisted in locating Hinton and the members of the public who provided information on his whereabouts.
