WOODBURY – The Woodbury Police Department’s multi-jurisdictional regional tactical team – the Orange County Tactical Response Unit – has received certification from the State Division of Criminal Justice Services for its special weapons and tactics (SWAT) team.
The tactical response unit consists of police officers from town departments in Woodbury, Warwick, and Chester, and the village departments in Monroe, Harriman, Goshen, and Greenwood Lake.
The certification recognizes that the team meets or exceeds the rigorous standards set by the State Municipal Police Training Council for tactical law enforcement units.
Among some of the extensive standards needed to achieve certification include supervision and team structure, team operator selection process, initial 160-hour basic SWAT course, monthly in-service training, physical fitness standards, equipment standards, deployment/operating procedures, tactical planning, and command/supervision training.
