POUGHKEEPSIE – A scooter rider was injured Tuesday afternoon in Poughkeepsie after the scooter he was riding struck a taxi on Main Street in Poughkeepsie. The accident at the intersection of Davies Place and Main Street happened just after 2:00 p.m.
According to witnesses, the 51-year-old man had been on the scooter in Waryas Park before he raced up Main Street and ran the red light at Rinaldi Boulevard. He then crossed into the westbound lane, traveling the wrong way to pass a vehicle. After he passed the vehicle he stayed in the wrong lane. When a vehicle traveling up Main Street began to turn left on Davies Place, the scooter struck the broadside of the vehicle.
The scooter operator suffered injuries to his head and arm and was treated at the scene by City of Poughkeepsie firefighters before being transported to a local hospital by EMS for further treatment.
