Senator James Skoufis (D-Orange County), in partnership with the Town of Chester, hosted his inaugural picnic for Orange County seniors in Chester and Warwick on Monday, September 9th.
Chester Supervisor Brandon Holdridge and Warwick Supervisor Jesse Dwyer helped the Senator welcome a crowd of 200 seniors to the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center in the Town of Chester. Lunch was served and residents were treated to music and live entertainment from local performers. The Ramapo Catskill Library System, Jewish Family Services, and Music for Humanity were on hand to offer information and resources to residents, and first responders stood ready to lend a hand when needed.
“It was great to spend the day with some pretty terrific Chester and Warwick residents,” said Senator Skoufis. “I’m grateful for the contributions our seniors have made to our communities, and always glad for an opportunity to listen to their thoughtful feedback and insight. A big thanks to Supervisors Holdridge and Dwyer for partnering with me on this event. I can’t wait to do it again next summer.”
Holdridge and Dwyer both said the event was a success.
“The Chester/Warwick Senior Picnic was a huge success,” said Holdridge. “It was wonderful to see so many community members who would have otherwise never met all gathered in one place to make new friendships and memories. I can’t thank the staff and all of the organizations who made the event happen enough. It was great collaborating with Supervisor Dwyer and Senator Skoufis’ staff to give back to so many. Thank you Senator Skoufis for funding this event and I’m looking forward to them in the future!”
“Warwick hosts the largest senior BBQ in Orange County, a tradition that’s been carried for decades,” Dwyer added. “I was happy to lend a hand for this inaugural picnic. It was great to see so many people come together, and I hope to see it happen for many years to come.”
Senator Skoufis will host a Western Orange County Senior Picnic in Slate Hill at Shannen Park, Thursday, September 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be served.
