THOMPSON – Tony Cellini, the longtime Sullivan County public official, died on Friday following a long illness. His passing came just weeks after his wife, Linda, died.

Cellini, who was 83, served on the former County Board of Supervisors, the predecessor to the county legislature. He was Thompson town supervisor at the time, a post he held for many years.

“I served with him for 25 years as his deputy supervisor,” said Bill Rieber, the current Thompson supervisor. “I had tremendous admiration for Tony.”

Prior to serving as supervisor, Cellini was a member of the town board.

He was a proponent of good growth in the town and supported development of a casino, first as a Native American venture, and later when casinos were legalized in New York, he pushed for what would become Resorts World Catskills.

Friends and colleagues described Cellini as a well-respected individual and family man.
