RHINEBECK – In 2018 the Firefighting Museum of Dutchess County began displaying antique apparatus and equipment in a tent at the Dutchess County Fair.  As the exhibit grew, so did the size of the tent, resulting in a pressing need for more space.  Members of the museum and the Dutchess County Fair raised money to construct the Dutchess County Fair Firehouse just in time for the 178th Dutchess County Fair this year.

Fairgoers who head to Livestock Hill at the fair can visit the stick-built firehouse designed to resemble an old firehouse in eastern Dutchess County.  Museum members are available to explain the various apparatus on loan from several county departments and visitors can see 100 years of local firefighting history.

Past Chief of the New Hackensack Fire Department, Kyle Pottenburgh, a member of the museum told Mid Hudson News that they are always looking for new volunteers to help with the museum and they are also looking for a permant home to house all of the apparatus and equipment that is currently stored throughout the county.
