Reported burglary leads to felony arrests in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – Two Poughkeepsie residents are facing felony charges after city cops responded to a reported burglary on Wednesday night.  The incident began on Winnikee Avenue at approximately 11:15 p.m. after police were dispatched to the area for a report of a crime.

The responding officers were provided a description of two potential suspects, later identified as Jerome Elting, 42, and Christina Sharps, 36, who police located in the area of the alleged crime.  The two were detained by police while the original complaint was investigated.

Officers discovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun in Elting’s possession and Sharps, police learned, was wanted on a warrant for felony grand larceny.

Both were arrested and taken to the police station for processing.  Elting was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon and Sharps was held for further processing.

Both remained in custody to await arraignment on their charges.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected to be levied on the two subjects.
