ROCK HILL- The Sullivan County community is mourning the passing of Thompson Sanitation owner Kristine “Krissy” Walsh. Walsh, well known for both her business success as well as her philanthropic and volunteer efforts throughout the region, spoke with Mid-Hudson News in March as part of a series during Women’s History Month.
During her March interview, Walsh humbly said she didn’t consider herself a role model for other women, despite many in the local business community regarding her as a trailblazer. Walsh was recognized by the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce in 2022 with its prestigious Businessperson of the Year award.
“I always had it in me to be successful on my own. I pay my own bills, pay my own rent, get my own car, and get my own house,” said Walsh in her March 2024 interview. “That’s why I just keep plugging along and pushing and striving for more and I am a champion of other women, especially in Sullivan County.”
Walsh, a graduate of Monticello High School, began working at Thompson Sanitation as a teenager and learned about the sanitation business from her father, who started the company. Under her leadership, the company experienced a period of rapid growth and became one of the prominent businesses in the Catskills.
In addition to her leadership in business, Walsh was active in the community. Her efforts included support of the annual WSUL Heart-A-Thon, the Sullivan County SPCA, and a stint as the president of the Rock Hill Business Association.
Mid-Hudson News offers our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues at Thompson Sanitation.
