Mahoney's in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – City police are investigating the Monday morning burglary of a popular Poughkeepsie bar.  The crime occurred at 7:00 a.m. at the same time many commuters were arriving at the Poughkeepsie train station that shares the lot with the burglarized Mahoney’s Irish Pub.

In the surveillance footage, a man wearing a black hoodie with the word SOCCER on the chest can be seen riding a bicycle to the popular bar and hiding it next to a van on the building’s north side.  He then sat on the window-mounted air conditioner,  loosening the braces.  In the video, he pauses a few times as potential witnesses drive past.

When the coast was clear, he pulled the air conditioner out and climbed into the lower-level window, falling to the bar’s floor in the process.

The man then removed two cash registers, containing an undisclosed amount of cash, and carried them out the back door to the patio, and placed them on a table.

He left the registers and returned a few moments later with a garbage bag that he used to carry his loot back to his bicycle before pedaling north on Water Street.

The man has tentatively been identified as a man called “Mike” who frequents the upper Main Street area.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has additional information is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie police department’s confidential tip line at 845-451-7577.
