MONTICELLO – Thirty-two-year-old Samantha Ripley of Monticello was arrested by village police on Friday, December 29, after police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a John Street office building at approximately 9:30 p.m.
The police were notified by a person who observed Ripley “pulling and prying at a rear door of the building before she entered it,” according to Village of Monticello Police Lieutenant Mark Johnstone. The responding officers arrested Ripley as she was exiting the building. At the time she was taken into custody, she was in possession of a long-handled screwdriver and 600mg of crack cocaine. The investigation determined that she had damaged four interior doors while inside of the building, according to the lieutenant.
Ripley was charged with the felonies of burglary and criminal possession of a controlled substance as well as the misdemeanors of possession of burglar tools and four counts of criminal mischief. She was arraigned and issued an appearance ticket returnable in the Village of Monticello Justice Court on January 8, 2024.
