TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Two supervisors in the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, a lieutenant and a sergeant, were injured in a two-car auto accident in Red Oaks Mill Tuesday afternoon.  The accident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Route 376 and Red Oaks Mill Road.

According to City of Poughkeepsie Police Captain Rich Wilson, the officers were part of a group of city officers who were returning from Hopewell Junction after assisting another police agency.  “These two supervisors were assisting the Town of East Fishkill Police Department with the tragic event that happened with their member yesterday,” he said, adding “They were returning from McHoul’s Funeral Home in Hopewell Junction when they were involved in a personal injury auto accident.”

Veteran East Fishkill Police Officer Daniel DiDato was killed in the line of duty on Monday after a crash on the Taconic State Parkway.  His body was transported from the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office in Poughkeepsie to the funeral home on Tuesday.

The second vehicle was operated by a man and had two juvenile passengers.  The two minors were evaluated at the scene by LaGrange Fire Department personnel.  The LaGrange professionals also triaged the officers and transported both to MidHudson Regional Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Wilson said the accident investigation was being conducted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
