GOSHEN – A 35-year-old Middletown man was sentenced in Orange County Court on Tuesday to 22 years to life in prison in connection with convictions for having repeated sexual contact with a child.
Cecilio Navarro, also known as Cecilio Navarro Rodriguez, was convicted by a jury of predatory sexual assault against a child and two counts of rape.
The district attorney’s office had recommended a sentence of 25 years to life behind bars with the sentences to run consecutively making his potential total life sentenced 36 years to life.,
At trial, prosecutors argued that evidence proved that between December 1, 2016 and October 27, 2018, Navarro engaged in two or more acts of sexual conduct with a child under the age of 13.
They also argued that in 2019, he had sexual intercourse with a child under 15 and in 2021, had sex with a child under the age of 17.
District Attorney David Hoovler called Navarro a “sexual predator preying on the most helpless type of victim, a child.”
