MIDDLE HOPE – A 60-year-old front seat passenger in a Honda CRV was killed when a Kia Forte was driving the wrong way and struck the other vehicle, Newburgh Town Police said.

The crash occurred after 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 on Route 9W near Conway Road in Middle Hope.

Police said the Kia, operated by a 44-year-old woman, was traveling south on Route 9W. The Honda, driven by a 50-year-old man, with three passengers including a 10-month-old baby, collided when police said it is believed the Kia was traveling southbound in the northbound lane.

The seriously injured woman was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital by New Windsor EMS where she was later pronounced dead, Newburgh Police said.

All the other passengers, including the driver of the Kia, were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The accident remains under investigation by Newburgh Town Police assisted by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.

Also at the scene were Marlboro Town Police and Marlboro and Middle Hope fire departments.
