NEWBURGH – Six construction projects that the Newburgh City Council approved years ago have yet to see ground broken and Mayor Torrance Harvey is blaming that on red tape at city hall.

He says the permitting process must be streamlined, something city attorney Michelle Kelson argued has already been done.

At this past week’s council session, Harvey wouldn’t buy that.

“Now I’m going to get pissed off because we get in our own way, and if you talk to any developer in the City of Newburgh…,” he shouted.

Harvey said he has fielded many phone calls from developers seeking his assistance in cutting through red tape so they can begin their projects.
