MIDDLETOWN – The Middletown Common Council Tuesday night voted to accept $2.5 million from the state to build a parking garage.

The funding was secured by Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) and Mayor Joseph DeStefano said the city is working with the lawmaker to determine the size and location.

“Downtown is the priority and that’s where we are hoping that it will definitely end up in the downtown area,” the mayor said.

Middletown officials have long sought funding to build a parking garage near the Paramount Theater to accommodate the volume of vehicles during events.
