NEWBURGH – In a little more than 24 hours before the next Newburgh School Board meeting, Superintendent Jackielyn Manning Campbell added another item to the agenda, bringing her current annual salary of $270,000 a year up to $300,000 in 2024.

The resolution is sponsored by school board President Carole Mineo, who lost her reelection bid last month. The proposed pay hike, plus benefits, is seen as a means to protect Campbell in the event the new school board majority decides to take the district in another leadership direction.

The proposed amendment to her current contract would also give her a raise in line with the cost-of-living index or three percent, whichever is greater.

The amended pact would also give her 23-vacation days next year with it accrued to a maximum of 25 days, and entitle her to participate in the tax-sheltered annuity program provided by the district.
