POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department has again enlisted corporate sponsors to help support the annual “Hooked on Fishing” day, taking place on June 4 at Morgan Lake.  Lieutenant Mel Clauson told Mid-Hudson News that the sponsors are helping the department and the Police Athletic League (PAL) continue their efforts to introduce children under the age of 16 to get outdoors and go fishing.  Many of the participants in the past had never tried fishing until meeting the officers, members of the Federation of Dutchess County Fish & Game Clubs, and Ken Rose, who showed them how it works.

“We are thankful for the support of Corbally, Gartland, and Rappleyea, Stewart’s Shops, and Baroni Scrap Metal who are once again helping us keep the event free while also providing light refreshments and prizes. The first 65 children that arrive with an adult and need a fishing pole will get a free one, thanks to our officers and sponsors,” said Clauson.

To participate in the day of fishing, taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., children must be accompanied by an adult, and bring their own fishing gear and tackle*.  Members of the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department are scheduled to be on hand as well to speak with the kids and give tours of their fire engine.

*If children do not have their own fishing equipment, they can receive their own if they are one of the first 65 kids to register on the day of the event.
