Wallkill Memorial Wall committee volunteers raise funds

TOWN OF WALLKILL – Little by little, The Vietnam Memorial Wall Committee in the Town of Wallkill is raising money to replace a metal scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, DC with a granite tribute to those who died in the Vietnam Wall.

Committee members were out Monday, on Memorial Day, selling hats and t-shirts and accepting donations to pay for the next sections of the wall which will cost $8,000.

Town Councilman and committee member Mark Coyne said much of the funding for the entire project is coming from state grants.

“We have ordered through the town – this is a town park – the other 12 remaining pieces. They will be here in about 18 months, and that came from grant money from Senator Skoufis and Assemblywoman Gunther,” he said.

It will cost less than $170,000 to finish the wall, Coyne said.

Donations may be payable to The Vietnam Memorial Wall Committee, PO Box 12, Circleville, NY 10919.
