POUGHKEEPSIE – A man crossing Church Street (eastbound arterial) near Market Street sustained serious injuries after being struck by a car on Monday afternoon.  City of Poughkeepsie police and fire personnel responded to the intersection at approximately 12:40 p.m.

Witnesses at the scene said the man, a Poughkeepsie resident, was crossing Church Street in a northerly direction when a blue sedan traveling east on Church Street struck him.  A witness said the man was taken to Vassar Brothers Medical Center with possible compound fractures of both legs and a head injury.

The driver of the car remained on the scene and was interviewed by police.

The eastbound lanes of Church Street (44/55) were closed to traffic between Market and Academy Streets while officers recovered evidence, including the victim’s belongings, and prepared to reconstruct the accident.

The vehicle was impounded by the police and transported to a secure location by Countywide Towing.
