MONTGOMERY- Assemblyman Brian Maher’s (R, Walden) bill granting peace officer status to Town of Montgomery Court employees was passed in the New York State Assembly on Wednesday.  This is the freshmen lawmaker’s first bill to pass the Assembly.

“In a time where safety and security are all the more important in all spaces of society, it’s especially important we ensure our courts are orderly and safe.  I am glad to have worked closely with the Town of Montgomery to see this legislation passed,” said Maher.

The Senate version of the bill, sponsored by Senator Rob Rolison (R, Poughkeepsie), is in the Codes Committee and has yet to be taken up for a vote.  If passed by the Senate, the bill would advance to Governor Hochul for her approval.
