Vice President Kamala Harris addresses graduating class of 2023 at West Point

WEST POINT – Graduates of the West Point Class of 2023 were told by Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday that there is “no more noble work that a person can do than to serve our nation in uniform.” And she told the graduates they “join the greatest fighting force the world has ever seen.”

But, she acknowledged these are troubled times.

“It is clear you graduate in an increasingly unsettled world where longstanding principals are at risk,” she said. “In Ukraine, Russia’s aggression is an attack on the lives and freedoms of the Ukrainian people and an attack on international rules and norms that have served as the foundation of international security and prosperity for generations.”

The vice president also pointed to China’s threats to the freedom of the seas and rules of international commerce, the persistent threat of terrorism, and the climate crisis.

But, Vice President Harris said the United States will prevail because of the leadership of West Point graduates.
