Ulster jail inmate charged with stabbing other inmate in neck with pen

KINGSTON – A 19-year-old Esopus man, who is in the Ulster County Jail, has been charged with assault for allegedly stabbing another inmate in the neck with a pen fashioned into a weapon.

The incident also charging Niaki Dial with attempted assault and promoting prison contraband, took place minutes before 4:30 p.m. on April 4, but was not made public until this Friday, May 26.

The wounded inmate suffered a puncture wound to his neck below his chin with a piece of the pen lodged in his neck.

He was transported to the hospital by Mobile Life Support Services ambulance.

Dial remains incarcerated on unrelated charges and will be arraigned in Kingston City Court on the new charges at a future date.
