PARKSVILLE – The Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association (SCVA) has announced the addition of a new dove to the Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail. The dove, which is located at Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary, is the 63rd dove to be added to the trail.

The Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail, with continued support from Sullivan 180, is a self-guided art tour that takes visitors to over 60 unique dove sculptures located throughout Sullivan County. The doves were created by a variety of artists, and each one is a unique work of art.

Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Parksville.

Founded by Todd Friedman after a walk on the property uncovered a baby pig, Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary is now five years old (as is the pig he named Arthur) and is open to the public for tours.

The new dove was created by artist Allison Luci, who is known throughout the animal sanctuary world for the donation of her talent through her “Art for a Cause” program. Her Dove artwork is a beautiful representation of the Sullivan Catskills and the mission of Arthur’s Acres, which is to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need, the SCVA says.

An unveiling will be held on Wednesday, June 7 at 11 a.m. at Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary, 89 Ahrens Road in Parksville.

“Art has always been a part of the sanctuary – but we wanted to make something accessible to the general public,” Friedman said. “Our message of compassion is global, but we want to plant local compassion seeds, too – the Dove was a perfect project to serve that goal.”

“The addition of the new dove is a great way to celebrate going into the fifth year of the Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail,” said Roberta Byron-Lockwood, president/CEO of the visitors association. “The trail has become a popular tourist destination, and it has helped to promote the Sullivan Catskills as a destination for art and culture.”

The trail is open year-round, and it is free to visit.
