NEW CITY – A Spring Valley woman was sentenced in Rockland County Court to nine years in state prison for the brutal stabbing of a woman on March 10, 2022.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh II said Evelyn Lopez approached the victim as she was entering her car moments after closing her restaurant for the evening and began stabbing her several times, slashing her in the face and hand.

The stabbing lacerated tendons in the victim’s hand requiring surgery and caused a deep gash to her face.

Members of the Spring Valley and Ramapo Police Departments and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and recovered the two knives possessed by Lopez during the attack.

Walsh said Lopez’s “unprovoked attack left the victim with serious injuries.”
