A dozen locals turned out Sunday to welcome the asylum seekers to the Town of Poughkeepsie

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Town Supervisor Jay Baisley of Poughkeepsie says that New York City Mayor Eric Adams is not telling the truth when it comes to the current migrant relocation program.  Between 60 and 80 migrants arrived at a hotel in the town, unannounced on Sunday, without prior notification from the city, despite Mayor Adams’ vow to give prior notice to the municipalities where migrants are going.

In a letter to town residents on Monday, Baisley said, “The town does not have the resources to assist these individuals who can’t work or support themselves at this time.”  He also noted that the asylum seekers do not have transportation and no arrangements have been made for medical care.  “This will add to an already overtaxed health care, mental health, and emergency response system,” Baisley stated.

Baisley has laid blame on both the federal government’s immigration policy and lack of action as the reasons for the issue being magnified.  Indicating that the town is taking legal action to halt the future arrival of migrants, Baisley also said, “The federal government needs to address this issue immediately as it effects every American.”
