KINGSTON – The purchase of an armored vehicle for the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office is a wise move given the volatility in the country in recent years, Sheriff Juan Figueroa says.

The county legislature last week approved the purchase after the sheriff proposed it.

“If you look at what the country has been going through the last few years and the statement from Legislature Chair Tracey Bartels that these shootings are not stopping and we need to protect, not only the people who go in and safe people, but our citizens as well,” he said.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has also had an armored vehicle that is on call for any community that has an incident that requires it.
