KINGSTON – The major rehabilitation of the Cooper Lake Dam and Reservoir in the City of Kingston should be completed by this fall.
Mayor Steven Noble said the ambitious project will provide major upgrades to the city’s system.
“We have gotten much of the water piping replaced; the water intakes have been replaced and we just switched over to the new water intake chamber that we are using now with the new dam,” he said.
Kingston is receiving $16.4 million short-term market-rate financing from the state along with a $3 million state grant.
The state is also providing funding to the Village of Red Hook for its water system upgrades. Albany will loan $720,000 in short-term market-rate financing and over a $1 million grant for the decommissioning of Well #4, replacement of 2,400 linear feet of water main, hydrants, and lead service connections on Graves and Cherry Streets, rehab of the interior of the 225,000-gallon water tower at the end of Tower Street, addition of a booster pump to the interconnection between the village and town water systems, and replacement of the control system at the water treatment plant.
