Orange County to spends funds to study Orange and Dutchess transportation access

GOSHEN – Orange County will receive $500,000 from the federal government for an Orange and Dutchess transportation access and mobility study.

Orange County Legislator Kevindaryan Lujan said the study is a long time in coming.

“For someone who thinks this is a pipe dream but for others like myself, it is a way for us to really connect the airport (Stewart) to the City of Newburgh to New York City as well to boost tourism to create jobs,” he said. “It’s a huge game-changer if it actually gets done, so for us to have that starting block to be able to check out the start is significant and I hope it is the beginning of something greater.”

 

More than three decades ago there was discussion of running rail for Stewart Airport to the Hudson River with access to the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and Metro-North Railroad in Beacon,
