MIDDLETOWN – The City of Middletown has hired a consultant to begin preliminary planning for a new transportation center.

Mayor Joseph DeStefano said the project will be a joint venture by the city and Orange County Government.

“There is infrastructure money available with the state with housing, transportation money to the county. There is already $7 ½ million already appropriated to the project by the county, so we want to have a professional planner come in, do the write-ups and layouts, and give us options in that area,” he said.

Several years ago, Coach USA/Short Line bus company had planned to develop the center, but the current owner of the bus company declined to do it.
