POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office has established a new domestic violence unit dedicated to serving the victims and seeking justice for offenders.
Sheriff Kirk Imperati said the unit is a partnership with Family Services and the sheriff’s office, which consists of two sworn members and two civilians, all overseen by a supervisor.
“We review the orders of protection. We work with Family Partnership ands their team and Family Services on lethality assessment programs sand doing an in-depth follow up to ensure the safety of the victims of domestic violence and their family,” he said.
Imperati said his office will continue to partner with the district attorney’s office to assist in the prosecution of domestic violence-related offenders as it has done for decades.
