MONTICELLO- Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster will host the awards ceremony for the 28th annual Alcohol, Tobacco, Gambling, and Drug Prevention Poster Contest on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the Sullivan County Government Center. Students, family, teachers, community members, and media representatives are invited to attend.
The Poster Contest celebrates the creative and artistic talent of Sullivan County students while promoting an important message of prevention. The theme for this year’s poster contest: “Life Can Be Anything You Make of It When Choosing to Be Alcohol, Tobacco, Gambling, and Drug Free!”
Awards will be presented in three grade categories: Elementary (grades 1-4), Middle School (grades 5-8), and High School (grades 9-12). A Grand Prize winner will be selected for both English and Spanish and the posters will be professionally printed and distributed throughout Sullivan County.
“Catholic Charities is excited to return to an in-person awards ceremony for this year’s Sullivan County Prevention Poster Contest,” said L.A. Branch, Sullivan County Prevention Projects Coordinator for Catholic Charities. “Now in its 28th year, the poster contest allows students to explore positive alternatives to drugs, alcohol, gambling, and tobacco use through their artwork and self-expression. I’m inspired by the creativity, thoughtfulness, and talent of our youth,” added Branch.
Catholic Charities Prevention Services has offices in Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties and maintains a presence in many school districts. Last year, the program provided community outreach, education, and training to nearly 14,000 individuals, including life-saving Naloxone (Narcan) training and distribution of medication safety protection kits.
