MAHOPAC – Two people were charged with assault following a dispute over a pet guinea pig, Carmel Town Police said.

The incident occurred at about 7:20 p.m. on April 9 when officers responded to a Mahopac residence and determined that two female roommates were involved in a verbal dispute over the pet.

The argument became physical when both women assaulted one another.

They were both transported to Putnam Hospital Center by EMS to be treated for their injuries.

Each was charged with assault and issued appearance tickets to return to town court at a later date.
