FORESTBURGH – The body of a man found Friday afternoon in a swampy section of a defined grid area methodically searched for a missing Glen Spey man has been identified as that of 35-year-old Harold Hoyt of Glen Spey.

Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty said the family of Hoyt was notified by Sheriff’s Detective Peter Ramos that the deceased individual was in fact their missing family member.

Sullivan County Coroner Allen Kesten made the determination on scene, and the body was recovered and removed to the morgue at Garnet Health Medical Center Catskills. Chaboty said an autopsy will be conducted on Monday to determine the cause of death.

Hoyt’s family members have been on scene every day as searchers from multiple agencies covered an area mapped out by New York State Forest rangers. The family was stationed where they have been each day when the body was spotted and recovered today.

Hoyt went missing in the early morning hours of March 30 when he and a buddy ran out of gas on a rural road in a wooded area Forestburgh. The two left their car and became separated while navigating through nearby woods, with only the buddy making it safely out and home.
