Three arrested for fraudulently trying to get $100,000 car loan

NEW ROCHELLE – Police in New Rochelle arrested three people on charges that they were fraudulently trying to obtain a car loan for over $100,000.

Detectives responded to New Rochelle Toyota late Thursday afternoon and found three suspects there, two of whom were unlawfully using names and social security numbers of persons from Pennsylvania and Iowa to obtain the loan.

Police contacted the victims in those states and confirmed they were unsuspecting victims of identity theft.

All three suspects were arrested.

Victoria Mendez, 34, of Astoria, and Sherinne Pelaez-Zencovich, 24, of Quebec, Canada were charged with grand larceny, conspiracy, possession of a forged instrument and identity theft.

Luis Ortega Perez, 25, of Jackson Heights was charged with conspiracy and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
