CARMEL – Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies placed all school buildings in the Carmel Central School District placed in a lock out due to several swatting incidents across two counties.

A building lock out is used to secure buildings and grounds during an incident that poses a concern outside the school. Under that procedure, no one could enter the building.

A short time later the lock out was lifted.

District officials note swatting is a criminal harassment tactic of deceiving an emergency service – using a hoax of an emergency – sending a police or emergency service response team to another person’s address.

The were no known swatting incidents directed at ant Carmel school on Thursday, authorities said.
