CORNWALL – National Vietnam War Veterans Day, signed into law nationally in 2017 by President Donald Trump, was marked with a ceremony at the Cornwall Yacht Club in Cornwall on Wednesday.

Dozens of veterans and family members attended to pay tribute to those veterans who returned home and to the 58,479 who did not return.

Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus, a Naval officer, addressed those in attendance and praised the men and women who fought in the conflict.

Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties hosted the event, which was attended by veterans and their families from around the region.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is an opportunity to recognize and give thanks for all who served during the Vietnam War, including those who were wounded, gave their lives, or went missing.

According to the event sponsor, “National Vietnam War Veterans Day is the hero’s welcome they never received.  It underscores the need to heal their painful wounds and allows us the occasion to pause and give respect, admiration, and thanks to the patriotic men and women who sacrificed so much in service to their nation.”
