Saugerties man charged with stealing truck and woodchipper

SAUGERTIES – A 47-year-old Village of Saugerties man has been charged with stealing a Ford Bronco truck and a large Bandit woodchipper attached to it.

The 1995 vehicle was reported stolen at around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 25 and within three hours, village police had the suspect in custody and the vehicle recovered.

The truck and chipper were reported missing at 8:30 a.m. in the area of Myer Lane in the village. 

By 11 a.m., police located them behind the Big Lots Plaza on Route 212 in the town. They were processed and released to the owner.

A half-hour later, detectives arrested Mason Bell and charged him with two felony counts of grand larceny.

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance with a stay-away order of protection issued on behalf of the victim.
