POUGHKEEPSIE – Poughkeepsie Middle School Principal Kelleyann Royce-Giron has submitted her resignation and will be leaving the school well before the academic year is over.

Royce-Giron, herself a product of the Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD), had served as principal at Poughkeepsie High School from 2020 through June 2022.  She was well-liked by students at the school where she was considered to be friendly and energetic, according to the student body at the time.

Royce-Giron was shuffled out of the high school in June 2022 when the district was ordered by the court to reinstate former principal Dr. Phee Simpson to the position she was ruled to have been wrongfully terminated from in 2019.

School district Superintendent Dr. Eric Rosser named Royce-Giron as “Principal on Special Assignment” in July 2022 at a salary of $137,025.

On September 1, 2022, Royce-Giron was named principal of the middle school.  The $145,000 per year position was probationary through February 17, 2024.  In addition, Royce-Giron was eligible for a stipend of no more than $14,040 for participation in the Extended Learning Time program through June 23, 2023.

Mid-Hudson News was unable to speak with district officials but sources have said Royce-Giron is heading back to work in New York City education, where she spent 20 years before returning home to Poughkeepsie to work in the local district.  The sources have also indicated that Royce-Giron will be leaving her position in the near future.
