POUGHKEEPSIE – Accused murderer Roy Johnson, Jr., 36, charged with killing a guest at the Courtyard Marriott in October 2022, has been moved from the Dutchess County Jail.  Mid-Hudson News has learned that Johnson, a convicted felon, was moved to the Sing Sing State Correctional Facility in Ossining on January 12, 2023.

Johnson, a known gang leader, was transferred to the state prison after it was determined that he was creating a safety hazard for county correction officers.  According to jail officials, Johnson is considered a high-ranking member of a local gang and was ordering other gang members at the Dutchess County Jail to assault the staff.

Johnson’s trial for the murder of Paul Kutz begins on May 2, 2023 before Dutchess County Court Judge Edward McLoughlin.
