Man arrested after allegedly hitting man over head with stolen bottle of booze

VILLAGE OF LIBERTY – A 31-year-old Liberty man has been charged with robbery and assault for allegedly striking another man over the head with a glass bottle of alcohol stolen from a neighboring business.

Village Police in Liberty said the attack occurred on Monday, March 20 in the Shoprite store.

The alleged assailant, Kip Banks, 31, was taken into custody by police.

Investigation revealed that Banks stole a large glass liquor bottle from another store, went back to the supermarket, and assaulted the employee in the store.

The assault was interrupted by several customers and employees who restrained banks until police arrived.

He was charged with robbery, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and menacing.

Banks was arraigned and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
