NEWBURGH – A 44-year-old City of Newburgh man has been arrested in connection with a string of commercial burglaries in the city.

Police Commissioner Jose Gomerez said the arrest of Omar Maldonado culminated in a several months-long investigation by the police detective division.

A search warrant was executed and evidence related to the cases was recovered, police said.

Maldonado was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail with additional charges forthcoming, Gomerez said.

“Property crimes are serious offenses that take money out of the pockets of our city’s hardworking small business owners,” the commissioner said, promising to use “all the resources at our disposal to investigate property crimes and vigorously pursue offenders.”
