CARMEL – The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) has investigated a report of a threat of violence at the George Fischer Middle School and an arrest has been affected, according to Sheriff Kevin McConville.  The sheriff made the announcement on Thursday morning.

The Fischer school was on a two-hour delay on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Deputies were reassigned to the school to assist the complement of existing School Resource Officers.  The school is part of the Carmel Central School District.

The sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation continues to investigate this matter, and Sheriff McConville reached out to a number of law enforcement agencies providing information, as well as the Putnam County Department of Social Services.

“There is no danger or remaining threat to the safety of students and faculty at the school,” said the sheriff. “In addition, patrol deputies will be present at schools throughout Putnam County during the day.”

The PCSO statement noted that all is safe.  “We take this opportunity to assure parents, students, and faculty that they are safe.”
