RAMAPO – A Ramapo Town Police officer and bystanders lifted the front end of a minivan to free a nine-year-old child who was pinned under the vehicle.

Police said the investigation indicates the child, a student at Cherry Lane Elementary and a town resident, had gotten off a school bus at the intersection of Pioneer Avenue and North Airmont Road when he was struck by a 2010 F550 pickup truck traveling westbound.

The child was thrown and came to rest under a 2011 Toyota Sienna which had stopped in traffic.

He was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla where he was listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

The driver of the truck, a 43-year-old Spring Valley resident, remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.
