MID-HUDSON – State Police in Westchester and Orange counties are investigating cases of debris being illegally dumped.

Individuals have illegally dumped backfill debris along I-95 and I-287 in the City of Rye.

Approximately 17 large hauls of backfill debris  were discovered on Thruway property on or prior to the dates of January 5, January 24 and March 18.

It is believed to be construction excavating waste. Further investigation determined a similar illegal dumping occurred in the Town of Harrison along a local roadway during the same time period.

Meanwhile, on March 20, State Police and members of the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit conducted a joint detail on Route 17 in Orange County with enhanced enforcement on garbage truck haulers.

They have been responsible for depositing large amounts of garbage on Route 17.

Troopers inspected five trucks and issued tickets for unsecure loads, weight violations, and other equipment violations.

Police said they will continue their enforcement efforts for the foreseeable future.
